POUGHKEEPSIE – One of the city’s most popular establishments for the past nine years is battling back against inaccurate news reports that they have gone out of business. Schatzi’s Pub & Bier Garden of Poughkeepsie opened their doors in 2013 and quickly became a popular spot for a wide variety of customers from the average Joe to the white-collar professional.
On Thursday, while preparing for another busy day during the holiday season, owner Jeremy Phillips found himself working twice as hard after a former Poughkeepsie-based newspaper published a story about restaurants that closed in 2024. Schatzi’s in Poughkeepsie was among those listed.
“I was fielding calls from the few people that still read that paper and they all asked if I was okay,” said owner Jeremy Phillips. That article blindsided the bar owner. “That is nothing short of fake news,” he exclaimed. “Our customer base continues to grow and we work hard to ensure everyone has a good experience. Having to waste time explaining away a fake news story just makes it difficult,” Phillips said, adding “Having to do it during the holiday rush is just absurd.”
