An electronic health record technology vendor, will pay $31 million to resolve alleged violations of the False Claims Act and Anti-Kickback Statute, according to the Justice Department Friday.
NextGen Healthcare Inc. allegedly misrepresented the capabilities of versions of its EHR software and provided remuneration to its users to encourage them to recommend NextGen’s software.
Specifically, the government charges that the company falsely acquired certification for its software and relied on an auxiliary product to hide from the certifying entity that NextGen’s EHR lacked functionality, said the agency.
