NHS board 'failed to address whistleblower's serious concerns' - The Times

Officials at a prominent health board supported by the Scottish government failed to address serious safety concerns after a member of staff raised the alarm, according to a report.

The investigation into NHS Forth Valley by Scotland’s national whistleblowing officer has been published weeks after the chief executive, Cathie Cowan, announced her retirement and left office.

According to the findings, the whistleblower highlighted serious concerns about risks of harm to staff and patients “resulting from serious issues they had with leadership, governance and culture at the board”.

Scotland’s Independent National Whistleblowing Officer (INWO) said it agreed with the employee that “it was difficult to understand” how NHS Forth Valley’s response “addressed the specific concerns raised”.
