Nimisha Priya Case: A Kerala cleric’s claim that Nimisha Priya’s death sentence in Yemen was cancelled has been denied by people familiar with the case. Officials clarified no such decision was made. Nimisha Priya Case: People familiar with the case of Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse on death row in Yemen, have denied recent claims made by a Kerala-based cleric about her sentence being cancelled. They said the reports are inaccurate and urged the public not to speculate on the matter.

The Hindustan Times report cited a person familiar with the matter, speaking on the condition of anonymity as stating that, “We have seen such claims in media, but they are incorrect. Everyone should refrain from spreading misinformation about this sensitive issue.”

The statement came after the office of Grand Mufti of India, Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musaliyar, claimed that Priya’s sentence had been overturned. However, the person cited above have clarified that no such decision has been taken by the Yemeni side.

Nimisha Priya, 38, is currently lodged in a prison in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, which is under the control of Houthi rebels. She was scheduled to be executed on July 16. However, her execution was postponed after Indian officials and members of the Indian diaspora intervened to seek a delay and explore possible options to save her life.
