A New Jersey-based highway contractor has agreed to pay $950,000 to settle accusations the company improperly represented itself as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise to win federal contracts, authorities said Wednesday.
MV Contracting, located in Rahway, was accused of obtaining several federal contracts between October 2016 and April 2019 that were reserved through a federal program to address ongoing discrimination in federally assisted highway contracting markets, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said in a statement.
MV Contracting did not qualify for the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program.
The $950,000 payment is restitution to settle potential civil claims against the company, according to the agreement.
Messages left for the owner of MV Contracting and company’s attorneys were not immediately returned.
