One Year After Charlie Kirk’s Assassination, Candace Owens Keeps Pumping Out Murder-Plot Conspiracies

What’s happening: In the year since the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, NewsGuard has identified 24 provably false claimsthat continue to generate millions of views online, in addition to dozens of baseless conspiracies. No one has been as responsible for keeping the Kirk myths alive as Candace Owens, a conservative pundit who claims to have had a close relationship with Kirk before his death.
Indeed, in recent months, Owens has been issuing unhinged Kirk-related posts almost daily on her YouTube, TikTok, and X accounts, all of which have grown steadily in audience size over the last year. Owens, an outspoken critic of Israel often accused of antisemitism, now has 6.1 million subscribers on her YouTube channel, up by 1.5 million subscribers from a year ago; 7.2 million followers on TikTok, up by 2.5 million, and 7.8 million followers on X, up by 900,000.
In just the past month, all 12of Owens’ YouTube livestreams were about Kirk or his organization Turning Point USA, collectively garnering 24.4 million views. Her videos often relate to the overarching conspiracy theory that Kirk was killed because he turned down an offer from pro-Israel billionaires to use his Turning Point USA organization to advance Israeli interests.
