Controversy hits Hyderabad’s Numaish as whistleblower alleges favouritism in stall allotments

Hyderabad: An anonymous whistleblower has levelled serious allegations against the Numaish Exhibition Board. The whistleblower has accused the management of irregularities in premium stall allotments, favouritism and lack of transparency in the conduct of the annual All India Industrial Exhibition (AIIE), also called Nampally Exhibition (Numaish).

WhatsApp chats show demand for money

The complaint, accompanied by purported WhatsApp chats allegedly showing a demand for money from a vendor, has sought an independent investigation into the Board’s functioning.

The whistleblower has also questioned the lack of progress in a Vigilance and Enforcement Department inquiry initiated earlier this year.

‘Lack of transparency in stall allotment’

In the anonymous complaint emailed to authorities and members of the Exhibition Society, the whistleblower alleged that the stall allotment process, the Society’s primary source of revenue during the annual exhibition, has lacked transparency for several years.

The complaint alleged that there was no uniform yardstick for fixing premium charges for stalls and claimed that favouritism, waiver of outstanding dues and arbitrary decisions had become common in the allotment process.
