A nurse says the US Department of Veterans Affairs told her to change a detail on her résumé, then later fired her over the very credential it had asked her to list.
A registered nurse is suing the VA, alleging gender and age discrimination and retaliation. According to the filing, she lodged her complaint on August 9, 2026 in the US District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, bringing claims under Title VII and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

In October 2022, the filing says, a VA official contacted the nurse and verbally told her to list her university's San Juan campus on her résumé, rather than the Bayamón campus where she had studied. According to the complaint, she was advised the change was necessary to move the contracting process forward. She says she resent her résumé as directed.
She began work as a registered nurse in February 2023, largely in critical care. In June 2023, according to the complaint, she reported irregularities in how a supervisor administered staff examinations, and separately raised a concern about harassment involving a nurse manager.
