Ocala City Manager Sandra Wilson fired in 3-2 vote; Assistant City Manager Pete Lee steps in - Ocala

Ocala City Manager Sandra Wilson's contract was terminated at the end of Tuesday's City Council meeting.

The vote was 3-2, with council members Barry Mansfield, Kristen Dryer and James Hilty voting to fire Wilson. Ire Bethea and Jay Musleh voted no. Mansfield made the motion to get rid of Wilson and Hilty seconded it.

Wilson, who has been the city manager for two years and a city employee for more than 20 years, thanked city officials. She told them she had a great experience and wouldn't trade it for anything. She said she appreciated the opportunity and wished everyone the best.

Wilson has more than 30 years of government experience and has worked in Eustis, Lady Lake and Lauderdale Lakes.

Wilson holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration and a master’s in human resources development.

Assistant City Manager Pete Lee was picked by Mansfield to be the interim city manager. The choice was approved 5-0.

Before his appointment, Lee was asked if he would accept the job. He walked to the podium and told council members that he would serve the city at their desire.
