Two Ohio asphalt companies have agreed to pay $30 million to settle allegations they submitted fraudulent tests to the Ohio Department of Transportation over the past decade.
Kokosing Materials, which has locations throughout Ohio, and Barrett Paving Materials, based in Hamilton, are accused of submitting the same mixture tests results over and over again instead of conducting new tests, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Ohio.

Kokosing Materials will pay $17.5 million, federal prosecutors said. Barrett Paving Materials will pay $12.5 million.
“The settlements announced today underscores our unwavering commitment to keeping federally funded transportation projects in Ohio and across the nation free from fraud, waste, and abuse,” said Elise Chawaga, Principal Assistant Inspector General for Investigations, U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General.
