Ohio Politics Explained: Fracking, medication abortion and minimum ... - The Columbus Dispatch

Ohio abortion clinics navigated a series of federal rulings on the legality of a drug called mifepristone this week. Advocates cleared the first hurdle to raise Ohio's minimum wage to $15 an hour, and U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan announced plans to investigate Manhattan's District Attorney.

1) The shifting legality of medication abortions

Medication abortions that use the drug mifepristone will no longer be available after seven weeks gestation, following a series of federal rulings about whether the Food and Drug Administration erred when it legalized one of the two drugs for the procedure.

Ohioans seeking abortions after those first seven weeks will still have the option of surgical abortion until about 21 weeks while a legal challenge to the state's heartbeat law continues to work its way through the state court system.

2) Drilling under state parks

Ohio continued taking steps toward leasing public lands to oil and gas companies for drilling this week. And environmental groups sued to block the new law's implementation.
