MANCHESTER, N.H. —
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Don Bolduc has had an evolving position over the course of his campaign on the false idea that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.
Over the past 18 months, Bolduc's answers have changed significantly on the topic.
At Tuesday's U.S. Senate debate held by the Mount Washington Valley Economic Council, Bolduc was asked about his prior claims that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump.
"You know, the 2016 election, which had the same type of accusations by the Democrats and Hillary Clinton, are political realms. That's the politics," he said.
It was the latest in a series of differing answers from Bolduc on the question of the 2020 election. News 9 first asked him about the issue in March 2021 on "CloseUP." He was asked whether he would have joined Republican U.S. Sens. Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz in objecting to certain states' electoral votes.
"No, I would not have. I would not have, because I understand the Constitution and I understand our rights," Bolduc said. "And I know my answer isn't going to be popular with some people, but the bottom line is doing the right thing."
But two months later, Bolduc joined other retired military officials in signing a letter that questioned the results of the 2020 election. The retired brigadier general touted that position during a candidate forum two months ago in August.
