The parents of OpenAI whistleblower Suchir Balaji have filed a lawsuit against The City of San Francisco, demanding access to police records related to their son’s death. They allege that authorities prematurely closed the case and are withholding key information, fueling their suspicion that Balaji was murdered rather than having died by suicide.
In their petition filed in the Superior Court of San Francisco, Poornima Ramarao and Balaji Ramamurthy claim they have faced repeated roadblocks while seeking answers. Their legal filing states, “In the two-plus months since their son’s passing, Petitioners and their counsel have been stymied at every turn as they have sought more information about the cause of and circumstances surrounding Suchir’s tragic death.” They are now urging the court to compel The City to release all nonexempt records under the California Public Records Act.

Allegations of Flawed Investigation
According to Ramarao and Ramamurthy, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) informed them in December that the investigation had been closed. However, despite their repeated requests, the department has refused to release its full report, raising concerns about a possible cover-up.
