Oregon justice officials announce new Medicaid fraud case, two convictions - The Lund Report

A state announcement comes amid a congressional inquiry into Medicaid fraud but state officials said the cases are not related to federal pressure

The Oregon Department of Justice has charged a counseling service in the Portland area with Medicaid fraud in connection with hundreds of thousands of dollars of claims.

A filing in Multnomah County Circuit Court last week accuses Roberto Felipe Munoz and Munoz Counseling LLC of making hundreds of fraudulent claims for payment to CareOregon, one of the state’s 11 insurers and nonprofits who manage Oregon Health Plan coverage for lower-income patients in 15 regions around the state. The document lists 18 felony counts of Medicaid fraud for making false statements and false representations on claims between March and August.

A department announcement on Monday accuses Munoz and his business of “stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from Oregon’s Medicaid program.”

Munoz Counseling LLC registered with the Oregon Secretary of State in February 2024, with Roberto Munoz listed as the agent, with an office address in southeast Portland.
