PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Workers making minimum wage in Oregon will get another raise in less than three months.
State law requires the Oregon minimum wage to increase as the U.S. City Average Consumer Price Index (or CPI) adjusts.
That next incremental adjustment is scheduled for July 1, 2023.
Oregon has three different minimum wages for workers across the state, which will all go up 70 cents.
- Standard Minimum Wage: $14.20 per hour
- Portland Metro Minimum Wage: $15.45 per hour
- Non-Urban Minimum Wage: $13.20 per hour
This year is the first that the wage will increase will be calculated based on the CPI. Oregon law requires that the adjustments be calculated before the end of April.
Below is how the state calculated for the CPI adjustment:
The current standard minimum wage rate is $13.50. Based on an increase in the CPI of 5.0% from March 2022 to March 2023, the calculation used for determining the standard minimum wage rate as of July 1, 2023 is as follows:
$13.50 X .05 = $0.675, rounded to $0.70.
