Out of state caller makes false claims to Metro 911 - WCHS

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A man claimed he had just shot and killed his parents and brother to a Metro 911 dispatcher on Monday morning, because he said his parents wanted him to get a job. The caller gave the dispatcher an address on Dunlevy Road in Charleston.

METRO 911: What did you get mad at them for?

CALLER: They kept telling me to get a job and I didn't like it.

METRO 911: How old are you?

CALLER: 15

Charleston police said multiple agencies and resources, like drones, were used to get information about the home and the caller. A woman came outside and told police no one had been shot. Police went inside and determined there was absolutely no evidence of a shooting.

Police said the 911 call was placed from a man with an out of state phone number.

Metro 911 told Eyewitness News they treat every call as though it is serious until proven otherwise and that hoax calls are very dangerous.

"You've got multiple different responders going to an incident that's nonexistent all because somebody wants to have fun," Metro 911 Training Coordinator Derek Johnson said.

The purpose of a swat call is to bring first responders to one area for an incident.

"Sometimes it's just random," Johnson told Eyewitness News. "Somebody that is bored. It could be somewhere in the country or somewhere in the world and picks a random address and says okay well I'm going to call in a false 911 call there."
