Outokumpu Stainless USA LLC must pay workers almost $13.2 million after a federal judge in Alabama rejected the company’s motion to overturn a default and entered final judgment.
The stainless steel manufacturer unsuccessfully sought to undo a 2021 default as to liability entered as a sanction for what the US District Court for the Southern District of Alabama called its “pervasive bad faith” in wage-and-hour litigation. Chief Judge Jeffrey U. Beaverstock declined to reconsider and instead entered a final default judgment requiring Outokumpu to pay workers nearly $13.2 million.
