Outrage in Gothenburg as a Beloved Gothenburg High Teacher is ... - NTV

Current and former Gothenburg High students are making their voices heard. They’re protesting after they believe their beloved English Teacher Jay Garrison is being punished unfairly after Garrison blew the whistle to parents about aspects in the curriculum he disagreed with.

For a second day protestors called for the administration to backtrack on their decision but according to a Gothenburg High parent, they aren't budging. In fact Nicholas Eisele says the principal of Gothenburg High threatened to call the police on his daughter.

Eisele stated, “I was kind of confused. I’m a veteran so I spent 9 years of my life fighting for the constitution. So for him to say I need to call the police on my daughter for protesting was in my eyes a direct offense to her constitutional rights.”

I took that statement to Principal of Gothenburg High Seth Ryker and asked for his side of the story.

He told me the accusation by the parent is not true and that parents are informed that students have three options. Quote:

"Allow their child to protest, pick their child up and bring them to school, or call the police and have them bring their child to school."

While the school system won't comment on the status of Mr. Garrisons employment, protestors say Mr. Garrison is possibly being terminated because he was speaking out against how ACT prep is being handled.

In an email to parents he said - he feels students scores are dropping each year because of ACT prep class cancellations.
