Three witnesses described alleged billing irregularities and troublesome workplace practices during a hearing for Oxford Center CEO Tamela Peterson on July 8.
The witnesses were called during a preliminary examination, which began May 29 in Livingston County's 53rd District Court.
Peterson was arraigned in January on nine charges of healthcare fraud for alleged false claims at the organization's center in Brighton. She's also one of three people facing a second-degree murder charge in Oakland County's 52-4 District Court for the hyperbaric chamber death of five-year-old Thomas Cooper.
Three witnesses testified May 29, including one former employee and two mothers of patients. The continued proceeding saw three additional witnesses July 8, including two former employees and a parent of two former patients.
Jared Kopyelowski said his two sons attended Oxford for about nine months in 2020. The boys, then 3 and 4, visited the center for autism treatment five days a week.
Kopyelowski testified that his main contact for his sons’ treatment plans was Casey Diskin, also known as Kimberly Coden. Coden is currently in prison after being convicted of unauthorized practice of a health profession, identity theft and bribing and/or intimidating a witness.
Kopyelowski said he and his wife withdrew their sons after learning of the fraud allegations against Coden.
