PAC pulls Lisa Scheller attack ad after her campaign alleges false claims on company's environmental record - The Morning Call

An environmental organization pulled an ad that criticized congressional candidate Lisa Scheller’s company after her campaign issued a cease and desist letter alleging the ad’s claims are false.

The ad, paid for by the League of Conservation Voters, claimed that Scheller’s company, Silberline Manufacturing, broke environmental safeguards dozens of times, paid $300,000 in penalties and broke environmental codes in Pennsylvania 64 times, including releasing pollutants into water and failing to properly store hazardous waste.

The cease and desist letter, dated August 30 and authored by Scheller’s campaign counsel Chris Winkelman, claims: “The advertisement strings together a host of claims - without any punctuation or so much as a meaningful pause — to mislead your viewers.”

The letter calls the claim that Scheller’s company broke environmental codes including releasing pollutants into Pennsylvania’s water “demonstrably false.”

“There are ZERO citations for polluting water,” the letter reads.

Even though the League of Conservation Voters, a political action committee that supports environmentally conscious candidates, agreed to pull the ad, a spokesperson said the agency stands by the claims and plan to release another ad soon.

“Rather than engage in a time-consuming back and forth with Lisa Scheller’s lawyers, we chose to take down the ad and focus our energy and funds on talking to the voters about why Lisa Scheller is out of step with Pennsylvania’s 7th district,” said...
