[OSEN=Reporter Kim Chae-yeon] Ms. A, the sister-in-law who was fined in the appellate trial for spreading false information about broadcaster Park Soo-hong, has appealed to the Supreme Court.
According to legal circles on the 27th, Ms. A submitted an appeal to the Seoul Western District Court on the same day.
Earlier, on the 23rd, the court sentenced Ms. A to a fine of 12 million won in the appellate trial for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act, the same as the first trial.
Ms. A was referred to trial for defamation after spreading false claims in a group chat room that Park Soo-hong had previously cohabited with a woman. According to the prosecution, Ms. A posted messages in the group chat alleging that Park Soo-hong’s older brother and her husband, Mr. Park, had embezzled funds, or that Park Soo-hong had cohabited with a woman during his appearance on a broadcast.
The second trial court ruled that the messages Ms. A posted in the group chat constituted false statements and imposed the same fine of 12 million won as the first trial.
However, four days after the second trial’s ruling, Ms. A appealed against the court’s decision, sending the case to the Supreme Court.
