PARTLY FALSE: This post does not show NUP’s Bobi Wine being arrested in February 2026 - PesaCheck

This TikTok post claiming that National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, was arrested on 10 February 2026 is PARTLY FALSE.

The post shows an image of Bobi Wine from behind, standing next to several other individuals. The accompanying text reads, “Breaking news Bobi Wine arrested today at the airport. Uganda opposition leader Bobi Wine was seized by officials at an airport.”

A similar claim was shared here on 10 February 2026, with the image showing Bobi Wine being whisked away by two individuals. The Luganda narration states that the Ugandan opposition politician has been arrested.

“Hey people, breaking news. Bobi Wine has been arrested. They said the deployment on the road was to deter him from using the main road. They wanted him to use the Express way to divert the people…”

The posts were shared amidst speculation about Bobi Wine’s whereabouts, who earlier revealed that he was in hiding after security forces raided his home in the aftermath of the 15 January 2026 presidential election. Bobi Wine continues to post on social media while in hiding, as seen here and here.

However, is it true that Bobi Wine has been arrested? PesaCheck subjected the claim image to a Google reverse image search. The results revealed that the images used in the posts are from 5 October 2023, not 10 February 2026.
