Pastor Jun Kwang-hoon, accused of spreading false claims about President Lee Jae-myung's educational background, appeared before police for questioning.
According to reporting by The Seoul Economic Daily on the 31st, the Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Metropolitan Investigation Bureau summoned Jun that morning as a suspect in a defamation case involving false statements.
Jun is accused of damaging the president's reputation by stating at a May 10 service this year that Lee "did not finish middle school or high school, passed a qualification exam at a juvenile detention center and transferred into Chung-Ang University."
The Christian Recovery Center, part of the Protestant group Peace Tree, filed a complaint with police against Jun on May 11, the day after the remarks, accusing him of defamation through false statements.
