Pennsylvania Dunkin' owner fined for violating child labor laws, US Department of Labor says - WGAL Susquehanna Valley Pa.

A Dunkin' franchise owner who has stores in Dauphin and Lebanon counties has been fined for violating child labor laws, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

DOL says Akshar Ashish LLC allowed 14 and 15-year-old employees to work more hours than permitted by law.

Labor officials say the violations involved 39 minors at Dunkin' stores located in the following locations:

  • Park Avenue, Hershey, Pa.
  • Hershey Road, Hummelstown, Pa.
  • North Larkspur Drive, Palmyra, Pa.

Following the investigation, the employer has to do several things, including:

  • Pay a civil penalty of $24,332.
  • Undergo child labor training with supervisors and managers.
  • Set up an internal phone number for employees to report anonymous child labor violations.
  • Require minors to wear different colored name tags so managers can easily identify minors under 16.

"Employers who choose to hire young workers have a legal responsibility to know and abide by the federal laws that govern their employment. These obligations include ensuring minors only work during permitted hours, so employment does not interfere with their education, health and well-being," said Wage and Hour District Director Alfonso Gristina in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
