Perry, North Perry villages increase pay for police officers - Yahoo News

Feb. 24—Pay for police in Perry and North Perry villages has been increased through a joint endeavor, in hopes of improving retention of officers at the law-enforcement agencies in each community.

Perry and North Perry village councils, during a combined meeting earlier this month, approved separate ordinances that gave raises to police for the remainder of 2023 and all of 2024 and 2025.

"Due to the fact that the police departments have been working together, the desire was to get both of them on the same wage scale and competitive with other communities," said James O'Leary, who serves as solicitor for bot villages.

This new three-year pay scale for full- and part-time officers was developed and proposed by the North Perry Village and Perry Village Police Retention Committee.

The panel, which formed and began meeting late last year, consists of both communities' mayors and police chiefs; and two council members from each town.

Before the new compensation plan was implemented, the top pay for North Perry and Perry Village patrol officers was $25 per hour, said Perry Village Police Chief Troy Hager.

With the ordinances approved, hourly pay for patrol officers from both departments was increased to $30, effective Feb. 12 and continuing through 2023. That hourly wage increases to $31 in 2024 and $32 in 2025.

The new pay scale includes a 75 cent per hour differential for working the night shift.
