Photoshop fraudsters stand out in £8.5bn of fake benefit claims - The Times

On the face of it, the photograph of the man standing proud, apparently by his front door, is unremarkable.

However, for the team at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) charged with stemming record amounts of fraud, the image has become emblematic of the challenges they are facing.

The man had been asked to take a picture of himself by his front door after the DWP became suspicious that he was claiming benefits in the UK while living abroad.

Upon receiving the photograph, it became clear he had been crudely photoshopped into the scene.

As well as a fairly obvious digital “cut-out” around his outline, a Google Street View camera was visible in the reflection of the car outside.
