Pierson Ferdinand litigator Marquetta Bryan says she is bringing “the fire to fight for what our city deserves” after her selection to lead the city of Atlanta’s legal department beginning in January.

Mayor Andre Dickens appointed Bryan to serve as Atlanta’s city attorney after his second term begins Jan. 5. She will replace Patrise Perkins-Hooker, who served since May 2024.

Bryan will lead a department that has dealt with a range of legal challenges in recent years—from a lawsuit connected to construction of the controversial “Cop City” Public Safety Training Center, to a federal consent decree to improve its ailing sewer system by 2027, and a class action concerning sidewalks not compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Dickens said in a statement that Bryan’s “depth of experience, coupled with her heart for public service, makes her the right choice to serve Atlanta in this critical role.”

Bryan has had an active practice with Pierson Ferdinand and Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough. Her more recent clients have included American Airlines, Cushman & Wakefield, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Vanderbilt University in federal courts in New York, Florida, Tennessee and Georgia.
