Police charge man over alleged shock false Bondi Beach terror attack claims - Sky News Australia

‘Elevated temperatures’ since the Bondi massacre

Former opposition leader Peter Dutton says the level of anger since the Bondi massacre has “elevated temperatures”.

A Sydney man has been charged by police after he allegedly made fraudulent claims that he was injured in the Bondi Beach terror attack.

Homicide Squad detectives identified a 46-year-old man who allegedly made false statements and fraudulent claims that he was injured in a bid for compensation in the aftermath of the terror attack.

News24.com.au understands the man allegedly made the false claim online through Victims Services, which offers financial help and recognition payments to victims of violent crimes.

The man was arrested at Parramatta Police Station on Tuesday about 10am.

He was charged with publishing false misleading material to obtain advantage and false representation resulting in police investigation.

The man made the false claims in the wake of the December 2025 Bondi Beach terror attack, in which two gunmen opened fire at a Hannukah event.

In the attack, 15 people were killed, aged between 10 and 87.

The Joint Counter Terrorism Team took charge of the investigation into the attack, while the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad led a secondary investigation into the police’s response.

During the secondary investigation, detectives uncovered the man’s alleged false claims.

The man was released on conditional bail and is set to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.
