Police officers face employment bans from law firms after retirement reviews - CHOSUNBIZ - Chosun Biz

Six retired individuals from the police service attempted to re-enter the workforce at law firms, but it fell through. Two faced employment restrictions, while four received employment disapproval decisions from the Government Officials Ethics Committee.

The Ethics Committee publicly released the results of employment reviews for 103 cases, including this one, on the 4th, titled '2025 employment review results for retired public officials.'

According to current law, former public officials ranked 4th and above, members of public interest organizations, and employees of specific public interest organizations who had an obligation to register their assets must undergo employment reviews before attempting to work in designated institutions within three years of retirement.

The Ethics Committee determined three cases that did not meet the criteria for employment approval as specified in the law to be 'employment restrictions.' Additionally, six cases were classified as 'employment disapprovals' due to recognized close work relevance between the department or organization the individuals belonged to for five years before retirement and the prospective employment institution.

Among those receiving employment restrictions and disapprovals this time, the highest number were former police officials. A former Superintendent from the Korean National Police Agency, who retired in December last year, attempted to become a senior advisor at the law firm DaeRyu Aju, but was disapproved....
