Police Probe False Claims on Semiconductor Firms' Performance Pay - 조선일보

The National Police Agency has initiated a pre-indictment investigation (internal review) into the spread of false information online claiming that the government demanded major semiconductor companies, including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, to nullify performance-based pay agreements.

The National Police Agency announced on July 3, “As false information, including the rumor of an official document demanding the nullification of performance-based pay agreements at major semiconductor companies, has been spreading online, we have initiated a pre-indictment investigation into seven accounts suspected of obstruction of business and other charges.” Anonymous workplace communities and other platforms spread posts claiming, “The government sent official documents to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, demanding a complete reevaluation of existing performance-based pay negotiations, and will design and operate compensation and distribution methods in line with the government-led excess profit-sharing policy starting next year.”

In response to the controversy, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources and the Ministry of Employment and Labor, among other government agencies, stated, “This is false information that does not reflect the facts,” and added, “We will take strong action, including reporting to investigative authorities, against those who maliciously spread incorrect information.”
