POSCO E&C employees leaked the identity of a whistleblower to the accused party and have been ordered to face disciplinary action by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC), it has been confirmed.
According to reporting by The Seoul Economic Daily on Tuesday, the ACRC on the 20th of this month decided to require POSCO E&C to discipline four employees, including the head of its ethics management office. They are suspected of violating the confidentiality obligations under the Public Interest Whistleblower Protection Act by leaking the personal information of an individual who reported alleged misconduct by a company employee.
The case began in October 2023, when Lim, the landlord of a building in Mapo-gu, Seoul, notified POSCO E&C's internal integrity management office of suspicions that Lee, a manager at the company, was running an illegal lodging business. Lim reported by phone that Lee had been operating an Airbnb out of the leased property while disguising it as an in-house venture project.
However, shortly after the report, an "unusual complaint sharing email" drafted by the integrity management office was distributed to the public relations and external cooperation departments.
