Postal Workers to Inspect Demolition Sites to Prevent Support Fraud - 조선일보

To prevent fraudulent claims of "false demolition" targeting demolition costs paid to closed small business owners, the government will deploy postal workers nationwide to conduct on-site inspections.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 15th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Postal Service Headquarters at the Government Complex Sejong to cooperate on field verification for the "Hope Return Package Store Demolition Cost Support Project." The signing ceremony was attended by Choi Won-young, head of the Small Business Policy Office at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and Park In-hwan, head of the Postal Service Headquarters.

The Hope Return Package is a project that supports demolition and restoration costs to alleviate the financial burden on closed small business owners. However, as the unit cost of demolition support has risen annually, concerns over fraudulent claims—where applicants receive funds without actual demolition—have grown. The demolition cost support limit was expanded from a maximum of 4 million won to 6 million won through a supplementary budget.

Previously, verification of demolition status was conducted by private-sector inspectors visiting stores in person. Going forward, postal workers who regularly deliver mail in their assigned areas will simultaneously check whether businesses have closed or been demolished.
