The Power Division has dismissed "misleading propaganda" over allegations of inflated electricity bills, saying all complaints it had received so far have already been resolved and warning of legal action against anyone spreading "false information" without evidence.
In a statement issued today (3 August), the Division said there is no scope for confusion regarding "excessive electricity bills", as complaints submitted by consumers have been addressed jointly by the ministry and the country's power distribution utilities.
However, it urged customers who believe they have been overbilled to submit supporting documents to the relevant authorities, assuring that such complaints would be investigated and appropriate action taken if irregularities are found.
The Division also warned that individuals or groups spreading false information about inflated electricity bills without evidence, with the intention of creating confusion, would face strict legal action.
The clarification comes amid growing discussions on social media and isolated complaints from consumers alleging unusually high electricity bills in recent weeks.
