President Lee Jae Myung Condemns Media for Unverified Organized Crime Allegations - 조선일보

President Lee Jae Myung criticized on the 14th, regarding the final confirmation of a suspended one-year prison sentence for lawyer Jang Young-ha, who had raised allegations of his alleged ties to organized crime, stating, “Even after such a ruling, there has been no apology, let alone a correction, from the media.” He added, “Irresponsible media that uncritically repeat false claims are more frightening than weapons.”

The president shared a post by Democratic Party of Korea Rep. Lee Geon-tae on X (formerly Twitter) that day, which reported the Supreme Court’s confirmation of the lower court’s ruling against Jang, who was charged under the Public Official Election Act for disseminating false information. President Lee wrote, “There are likely still many people who mistakenly believe I have ties to organized crime,” and elaborated, “Media outlets that indiscriminately amplified the baseless ‘Lee Jae Myung organized crime involvement’ claim without verification have not only failed to issue corrections but have not even reported the facts after this ruling.” He continued, “This is why media that report without verifying facts, intentionally manipulate or distort information, or uncritically repeat groundless falsehoods are more dangerous than weapons.”
