Printing company boss held over false claims linked to ex-leader's book - NST Online

MELAKA: A printing company director was arrested yesterday over suspected false claims totalling RM100,000 involving coffee table books for a former state leader.

The suspect, in his 60s, was detained at the Melaka Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission office after giving his statement.

Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman granted a five-day remand order against him until Aug 22 today.

A source said preliminary investigations revealed the suspect committed the offence in 2021.

"He is believed to have submitted claim documents containing false details for the design, printing, and supply of the coffee table books," the source said, adding that not all the books were delivered.

Melaka MACC director Datuk Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest when contacted, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for submitting false claims.

The offence carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the sum of the false claim or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
