Singapore opposition leader Pritam Singh has been removed from the country’s roll of advocates and solicitors following his conviction for giving false evidence to a parliamentary committee.
The Court of Three Judges, Singapore’s highest disciplinary body for lawyers, issued the decision on Thursday after a brief hearing. Singh, who leads the Workers’ Party (WP) and represents Aljunied GRC in Parliament, did not challenge the Law Society of Singapore’s application.
Singh is a non-practising lawyer.
The Law Society applied for disciplinary action in March 2026 under Singapore’s Legal Profession Act. The law requires the court to consider striking off lawyers convicted of offences involving fraud or dishonesty.
Senior Counsel Cavinder Bull, representing the Law Society, told the court that dishonesty-related misconduct normally warrants removal from the lawyers’ roll unless there are exceptional circumstances.
He also said Singh’s positions as a lawyer, Member of Parliament and former Leader of the Opposition made the misconduct more serious.
Singh’s lawyer, Senior Counsel Andre Maniam Rajah, said his client accepted the Law Society’s position and was not seeking an exception.
The disciplinary proceedings stem from Singh’s conviction in February 2025 for giving two false answers under oath to Parliament’s Committee of Privileges.
