Proposed bill would establish Pennsylvania whistleblower office - Yahoo

(WHTM)– A Pennsylvania lawmaker is proposing creating a statewide whistleblower office to help agencies deal with fraud.

The bill, circulated by State Rep. Abigail Salisbury (D-34), aims to establish the office to help Pennsylvanians connect with different agencies that handle different types of fraud. State Rep. Salisbury said the current system can confuse the average Pennsylvanian, leaving them unsure whom to contact about fraud, waste, or abuse of state funds.

According to the memo, Pennsylvania currently lacks a clear hotline and electronic reporting system.

The office would establish and maintain a 24/7 hotline and an online reporting system, allowing residents to submit reports anonymously, if they choose, and to include evidence to support their claims, the memo said.

“If we want to get serious about uncovering and addressing fraud, waste, and abuse, then we have to create a more transparent and accessible infrastructure for doing so to encourage Pennsylvanians to speak up when they see something wrong,” State Rep. Salisbury said.

The bill has not yet been submitted for introduction.
