Prosecution Seeks One-Year Prison for YouTuber in SK Group Defamation Case - 조선일보

The prosecution has requested a prison sentence for a YouTuber charged with spreading rumors about SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and Kim Hee-young, director of the T&C Foundation.

On the 17th, the prosecution asked Judge Seo Young-hyo of the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul Northern District Court’s Single Judge Department to sentence YouTuber Park Mo to one year in prison during his first trial for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act. The prosecution stated that it considered Park’s responsibility for distributing fake news, false fabricated information, and the victims’ desire for punishment.

Park is accused of posting videos and articles on his YouTube channel and blog over 10 times from June to October of last year, containing baseless claims about Chairman Chey and Director Kim, including a 100 billion Korean won inheritance theory, allegations of obstructing children’s employment, and false facts related to their families. The Seoul Northern District Prosecutors’ Office indicted Park without detention in July.

The defendant is known to be a longtime acquaintance and associate of Roh Soh-yeong, director of Art Center Nabi, whose divorce from Chairman Chey was finalized recently. He has identified himself as a “fan club president” while engaging in broadcasting activities and is also reported to have been affiliated with a future-related academic society alongside Director Roh.
