Prosecutors Seek 8-Month Term for YouTuber's False Spy Claim - 조선일보

Prosecutors have requested an 8-month prison sentence for a YouTuber who claimed that Kim Hee-young, director of the T&C Foundation and a cohabitant of SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, was a Chinese spy.

Judge Kwon Min-jeong of the Seoul Eastern District Court’s Criminal Division 6 held the first trial hearing on the 11th for Park, a man in his 50s, who was indicted for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act by spreading false information. Park was previously indicted without detention in April.

Park is accused of spreading falsehoods, including stating on his YouTube channel last year that there was a high possibility Kim was a Chinese spy.

Prosecutors requested the court to sentence Park to 8 months in prison, stating, “The crime is severe as he made baseless and socially unacceptable remarks without evidence and uploaded videos of those remarks.” Park admitted to all charges. The sentencing date is set for the 9th of next month.
