Change may be coming to the compensation rules in one province, which could directly affect how HR professionals manage workplace injuries, claims, return-to-work processes and employer obligations under Manitoba’s workers’ compensation system.
The Workers Compensation Act Legislative Review Committee 2025-2026 (LRC) has opened a public consultation on Manitoba’s Workers Compensation Act, inviting feedback from workers, employers and other stakeholders until March 31.
The LRC, appointed by the provincial government, is mandated to review the Act “to make sure it continues to meet the needs of both workers and employers in Manitoba,” according to a release from DCN-JOC News Services.

“We are looking for input from workers, employers, labour unions, industry and safety associations, key stakeholders and encourage any interested Manitobans to visit our website to learn more about our mandate and scope of the review,” LRC chairperson Lawrie Cherniack said in a statement. “Anyone interested in the future of the workers’ compensation system can participate in the consultation to have their voice heard.”
A consultation paper has been released to provide context and background for participants.
Once the consultation period closes, the LRC will review all submissions and prepare a report outlining its recommendations in December 2026.
