Union Task Force Update|Agency Spars Over Data Sharing
Rebecca Rainey: The White House task force created to promote union organizing has delivered a second report to President Joe Biden that includes new recommendations on how the executive branch can boost collective bargaining.
Lynn Rhinehart, senior counselor to Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, said the latest report from the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment will also include an update on the effectiveness of the panel’s first set of recommendations.
But don’t hold your breath. It took the White House several months to release the task force’s initial report.
“It’s been submitted and it will be released. I can’t give you a time frame,” Rhinehart, former general counsel for the AFL-CIO, said Thursday at the American Bar Association’s annual labor and employment law conference in Washington, D.C. “It’s a progress report that really details how the agencies are doing and implementing those recommendations. And the other thing that’s really exciting is that it contains a lot of examples where agencies picked up ideas from each other.”
The latest task force findings follow a 43-page set of recommendations published in February, largely focused on how federal agencies can expand both public and private-sector workers’ access to information about US labor law protections and how to form unions.
