THE FACTS: As the world watched the state funeral for Britain’s queen of 70 years on Monday, an old photo falsely captioned as showing Elizabeth was circulating anew on social media.
The black-and-white photo showed an adult man and woman facing away from the camera, bowing before Selassie and his wife, Menen Asfaw.
“QUEEN Elizabeth and prince Charles both bow to the KING of KINGS selassie I the first,” a Facebook caption read.
However, the photo, which has circulated with similar false claims in the past, does not show Britain’s late queen or current king.
The photo was captured by Alfred Eisenstaedt and appeared in a collection of images for Life magazine, according to an archive of the collection on Shutterstock’s website. Shutterstock is an official photo agent for the magazine.
“Ethiopia Essay Haile Selassie with his wife greeting guests, Ethiopia, 1955,” the original caption read.
