Queen Elizabeth University Hospital patients given 'deeply inhumane' 5am bed baths - The Times

Waking patients at 5am for bed baths has been branded “deeply inhumane” after it was highlighted by an NHS whistleblower.

Opposition politicians and the national charity Age Scotland expressed concern over claims that overstretched nurses, some of them caring for up to 30 patients — are being forced to begin ward rounds as early as 5am.

The practice is said to have happened at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, prompting concerns that denying patients, and especially the elderly, of a good night’s rest may jeopardise their recoveries.

Paul Sweeney, the Labour MSP for Glasgow, was told by a nurse that staffing levels at the hospital were “atrocious” and that one trained nurse was “frequently left to care for 30 patients”.
