QUINCY (WGEM) - Quincy City Council approved a Whistleblower Reporting and Anti-Retaliation Policy Monday night for city employees to protect them when they report concerns.
Mayor Mike Troup said the state recommends that cities put this kind of policy in place so that when employees see wrong-doings happening, they have a safe space to do it and the city has procedures to follow on how to address it.
“I think it’s just a safety precaution to help protect everybody. If we have a procedure in place, then we know how to operate it, follow the guideline and procedure. If somebody sees something, make sure there’s proper review,” Troup said.
He said now that it’s passed, they will relay information to all employees and discuss the matter with department heads at their weekly meeting, so everyone understands how the policy works.
