Rahul Gandhi can't win India's trust with false claims on fake voters: Piyush Goyal - India Today

Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday tore into Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's "false allegations" on voter theft and fake voters in at least three states, saying that "politics can't be based on lies".

Speaking at a session during the Business Today India@100 Summit, Goyal said the senior Congress leader "can't gain the nation's trust by running down India's institutions".

In recent days, the Congress MP has upped the ante against the Election Commission, levelling voter fraud claims even after the poll body fact-checked him several times.

The Election Commission on Friday cited a 2018 case in which a similar fake voter complaint filed by Congress leader Kamal Nath fell flat in the Supreme Court, as the poll body had already shared the rectified voter list with the party four months before the plea was filed.
