A 48-year-old Fareway employee was killed after he was shot in what police call a random act of violence.
At 7:29 am Monticello Police were called to the Fareway Meat and Grocery at 420 North Farley Street.
Police say Aaron McAtee was outside the store near the loading dock when he was shot.
McAtte was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where he died from his injuries.
During the investigation, 38-year-old Nathan Russell of East Dubuque, Illinois was identified as a person of interest.
Russell was then found in Hopkinton, Iowa.
While attempting to take Russell into custody, Russell failed to follow directions from the Delaware County Deputy.
That's when the Deputy fire his gun in attempt to detail Russell.
Russell was take to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with gunshot wounds.
The Delaware County Deputy was placed on critical incident leave pending the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing with the partnership of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Jones County Sheriff's Office and the Delaware County Sheriff's Office.
