"I am requiring all teachers to stop all Muslims from entering our schools for now," reads a Visayan-language quote attributed to Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy, in a Facebook graphic shared on August 20, 2026.
The graphic includes an image appearing to show the mayor speaking to the press. The logo of GMA Super Radyo Davao is displayed in the top-right corner, attributing the graphic to the station.
It circulated two days after a deadly school shooting in Zamboanga City, around 500 kilometres (310 miles) from Cagayan de Oro City in the southwestern Philippines (archived link).
Authorities said a student livestreamed himself fatally shooting a schoolmate before taking his own life. They identified the suspect as a ninth-grade student, placing him between 14 and 16 years old.
School shootings are rare in the Philippines, but three teenage students were killed and 20 others wounded in an attack at a school in the central Philippines in June.
The same graphic was also shared in similar Facebook posts.
"The poor Muslims... they haven't done anything wrong, mayor," reads a comment on one of the posts.
Responding to the mayor's purported order, the Salaam Police Advocacy Group -- a Muslim community relations group that works with the Philippine police -- said in Facebook statement posted by its national spokesperson that "such a policy or directive would raise serious constitutional, human-rights, religious-freedom, and equal-protection concerns" (archived link)....
