Reign on fake, fraudulent social media campaigns ahead of flagbearer contest — Nana Akomea to NPP leadership - Modern Ghana

Former National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has urged the party’s leadership to clamp down on divisive and misleading campaigns ahead of the upcoming flagbearer contest.

In a social media post on Wednesday, December 17, Akomea warned that unchecked misinformation from some campaign teams could lead to wider confusion and chaos.

“As the NPP goes into the last month before the primaries, I have seen a lot of fraudulent and untrue campaigns on social media. Some of these may seem clever, but they are so fraudulent,” he said.

He highlighted examples of false claims circulating online, including manipulated videos and posts misattributing statements to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“There is one featuring Bawumia asking voters to vote No. 1 on the ballot. The video is obviously from 2024 when Bawumia was No. 1, yet it is superimposed on a background of Kennedy Agyepong’s poster with the caption ‘Bawumia for Ken’.

“Another post falsely claims Bawumia is paying GHC1,000 to delegates in the North and GHC300 in the South. Such obvious lies must be addressed,” Nana Akomea noted.

He called on the NPP hierarchy to take decisive action against perpetrators of fraudulent campaigns to ensure a fair and transparent primary process leading up to the January 31, 2026 flagbearer election.
