Remara co-founder claims false fraud allegations used to push him out - AFR

A co-founder of private credit firm Remara is attempting to wind up the company, alleging he was falsely accused of fraud before being pushed out.

David Verschoor, via his private company Rous Investments, is suing to appoint liquidators to Remara Capital Holdings, a joint venture between his company and Remara Investment, according to documents filed in the Supreme Court of NSW.

Verschoor was also founder and chief executive of small-business lender Dynamoney, a Remara-associated entity, where Remara managing partner Andrew McVeigh acted as chief financial officer. Verschoor and McVeigh founded the Remara Group together in 2019.

Remara, a sponsor of the NRL’s St George Illawarra Dragons, is a major Sydney-based private credit fund with a $3 billion loan book. In September this year, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission forced Remara to stop accepting money into one of its funds and warned it was inadequately disclosing risk.

Verschoor alleges he was terminated from Dynamoney in May last year, locked out of company systems and not given a chance to defend claims made against him, according to Rous’ statement of claim. Rous is asking the Supreme Court to appoint McGrathNicol as liquidator of Remara Capital.
