Rep. Eric Swalwell announces resignation from Congress after misconduct probe launched - KCRA
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Hours after the House Ethics Committee began an investigation into Rep. Eric Swalwell's sexual misconduct allegations, he announced Monday on social media that he is resigning from Congress.
"I am deeply sorry to my family, staff and constituents for mistakes in judgment I've made in my past," Swalwell said in a post on social platform X. "I will fight the serious, false allegation made against me. However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make."
Swalwell also referred to efforts to bring an immediate expulsion vote against him, claiming that he is not receiving due process.

The allegations circle around claims that Swalwell engaged in sexual misconduct toward an employee working under his supervision.
On Sunday, Swalwell suspended his campaign for California governor after the emergence of allegations that he continues to deny.
"To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past. I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s," Swalwell said on social media.
The San Francisco Chronicle first reported that a woman who said she worked for Swalwell claimed he sexually assaulted her twice when she was too intoxicated to consent and sent her explicit photos via Snapchat while asking for nude photos in return.
